Day 7

Scripture to Read: Luke 8:38-39

According to Luke 8:37, we know that “all the people of the country of the Gerasenes and the surrounding district asked Him to leave them.” They wanted Jesus gone, but God did not leave it there, for He had Luke record this in Luke 8:38–39, “But the man from whom the demons had gone out was begging Him that he might accompany Him; but He sent him away, saying, 39 ‘Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you.’ So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.” The man who had been demon-possessed was begging Jesus to stay. What a contrast of the people who asked Jesus to leave. When people are truly transformed by our Lord Jesus Christ, they don’t care about anything else except being with Him. But note what Jesus tells the man, “Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you.” Jesus told him to go be a witness to everyone he knew. The man’s life had been changed, and Jesus told him to proclaim what God had done for him. What a great reminder to every believer. God has transformed our lives; He has brought us out of death and into life through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Christ, we have been set free from the power and penalty of sin. God has adopted us into His family and we are called His children. Just like the demon-possessed man after being healed, we must also proclaim the great things that God has done.

Challenge & Application

Why did Jesus tell the man to go back to his house, what was he to do, and why was he to do it? What has God done for you and how are you proclaiming it to everyone you know?

For it had seized him many times; and he was bound with chains and shackles and kept under guard, and yet he woul...

God had Luke record what happened next in Luke 8:34–37, “When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they ran away and reported it in the city and out in the country. 35 The people went out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus, and found th...
