Day 2

Scripture to Read: Luke 11:1

The disciples had watched Jesus pray and that created a hunger in them to learn to pray. No doubt, they saw something in Jesus’ prayer time that revealed His intimacy with our Heavenly Father and stirred them to desire to pray as Jesus did. What’s interesting about prayer is that it is so simple that the smallest child can pray the sweetest prayers to our Heavenly Father while at the same time, the greatest men of God can’t be said to have conquered the secret to praying perfectly. God even led Paul to write this about prayer in Romans 8:26–27, “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” Through Paul, God reveals to us that prayer is a weakness for all of us and that prayer is possible only through the Holy Spirit living in us. The Holy Spirit helps us, prays with us, for us, and through us, even taking our prayers and making them perfect before the Father, exactly according to His perfect will. What God desires from us is that we hunger for a deeper intimacy with Him through prayer. Then, He gives us His Holy Spirit so that we have all we need to grow in our deep intimacy with Him. We must act on it and begin practicing His presence daily.

Challenge & Application

Why do we struggle with our prayer life according to Romans 8:26? How does God provide for us to be able to grow in our intimacy with Him through deep, meaningful prayer?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

For Christians, prayer is the incredible doorway we have to fellowship with our Heavenly Father every day. As Jesus prayed, His disciples watched, and then God had Luke record this in Luke 11:1, “It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray just a...

Day 3

We know Jesus had already taught this same basic prayer outline, as God had Matthew record for us in Matthew 6:9–13. The reason Jesus repeated some of the basic outline in Luke 11 is that it reveals how important prayer is to all of Jesus’ followers. Notice that Jesus did not repeat the prayer exactly as recorded in Matthew 6. God wants us to...

Day 4

As God had Luke record what Jesus said, we read in Luke 11:2, “And He said to them, ‘When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.’” We also read in Matthew 6:9, “‘Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name.’” The model prayer reveals to us that when we come to God, we come to Him as ...

Day 5

As Jesus continued to give the disciples the model prayer, we find this recorded in Luke 11:3–4, “‘Give us each day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.’” God had Matthew record it like this in Matthew 6:11–13, “‘Give us this day our daily br...

Day 6

As Jesus taught the disciples to pray, God had Luke record this in Luke 11:5–8, “Then He said to them, ‘Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; 6 for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; 7 and from inside he answers and says,...

Day 7

Jesus not only taught on the persistence of prayer, but also on the earnestness and intensity of prayer. God had Luke record this in Luke 11:9–13, “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks,...
