Scripture to Read: Luke 8:22
When Jesus was here on earth in bodily form, He had an incredible ministry as He continually traveled through Judea, preaching in the synagogues. He was also continually investing in His disciples, knowing He was preparing them for when He would depart this earth and send the Holy Spirit to indwell them, and of course, everyone else who would surrender to Him as Lord and Savior. As God led Luke to record what Jesus did, we read this in Luke 8:22, “Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, ‘Let us go over to the other side of the lake.’ So they launched out.” As we know, Jesus often taught the crowds from a boat because His voice carried better over the water and the people could hear Him as He taught. Jesus did not tell the disciples His plan; He just told them, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” None of the disciples asked Him why or what His plan was for them or what else He wanted them to do once they arrived; they all simply got in the boat and launched for the other side. Jesus gave all of us His command in Matthew 18:19–20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…” Like His first disciples, we need to follow His command and do as He has said.
Challenge & Application
Why is it hard at times for some Christians to follow the commands of our Lord?
How are you obeying our Lord each day and how are you helping other Christians to do the same?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
